By Kelle Marie

My first encounter with one of DJ Nature's performances was at a field party in Denton in 98. Under a rusty tin roof next to the house and dnb dj's was Nature playing whatever the hell he wanted how he wanted with impressive scratching and turntable skills to drive his point home. From the crowd's response to the smiles on the surrounding dj's faces, it was undeniable Nature would have a hot future ahead of him.

You may or may not be familiar with DJ Nature depending on your length of time in the local music scene or due to his lengthy travels, but he is back in the metroplex and already back to his old floor-filling tricks.

DDM: So, how many different genres are you playing now?

N: I've never played DnB (yet), and I'm not sure what Trance is but I fuck with just about everything else. Right now... I'm fucking with all things Hood. Dipset all day, Baile Funk, Bmore House, Jamaican One Drop, Grime, Dirty South, Bass, etc.

DDM: Any Residencies?

May Profile - DJ NatureN: I do a Wednesday night at Rubber Gloves in Denton called TheParty. I'll take a Thurs/Fri/Sat at Slipp Inn, Minc, Zubar, the Asain "spot with the pool", The Cavern, HOLLA IF YOU HEAR ME!!!!!! I'll fuck with any of these spots. My night in Denton is fun, but I'm sick of these art school bitches. Really.

DDM: How long have you been in the industry?

N: I've been djing for a living since 99. I didn't know what "the industry" was until about 2002. so... 4 years????

DDM: How did you get started?

N: Student loans and dropped classes.

DDM: You have been out and about for quite some time, but have come back to North Texas recently. Describe your travels and what brought you back to the area.

N: Got gangsta in Puerto Rico, Got Money in New York, Getting Focused in Texas. It's a true story mama.

DDM: How did NY and Puerto Rico influence you as a dj? What do you think about DFW now that you're back?

N: Well... I'm just more in tune with street shit. I lived in THE roughest part of Puerto Rico. The neighbor hood was call La Perla. Google it. That's self explanatory.

New York... NY is the truth.

After you see enough dead bodies, shit like underground hip hop (ie small talk) sort of looses it relevance. I like real to the point shit. If it's Fire, Lava.

DFW has always showed me a lot of love. Lot's of flavor out. My guys are still doing it big, Phooka is on kill, Arnold, I ran into Gary yesterday, he's doing it big, Squirt is fire, Eddie D, my man Select is about to wreck DFW. New cats I like... Stephen R, Wild Bull, Justin V, Prince William, Wild in the Streets.
